Exporting a GPX or FIT from Garmin

Garmin keeps your activity files a few clicks deeper than most. Here is how to get one out, from the web and from your phone.

Updated 30 June 2026

Garmin records every activity as a FIT file — the rich format that keeps your heart rate, power and cadence alongside the track. You can export that FIT directly, or a simpler GPX if you prefer. Either works in PaddleScout; FIT just carries more detail.

From a computer, Garmin Connect on the web is the most reliable way to get the original file.

1

Open the activity on Garmin Connect

Sign in at connect.garmin.com and open the paddle you want from your Activities list.

2

Open the activity menu

Click the gear or three-dots menu at the top right of the activity.

3

Export the file

Choose "Export Original" for the FIT file, or "Export to GPX" for a GPX. Your browser downloads the file to your usual downloads folder.

From the Garmin Connect phone app the steps are similar, though the app offers GPX rather than the original FIT.

4

Open the activity, then the menu

Tap the paddle in the app, then the three-dots menu at the top right.

5

Export the GPX and save or share it

Choose "Export GPX", then save the file or share it to yourself however is easiest — email, AirDrop, or your files app — so you can upload it.

Once you have the file, head to the upload page and drop it in. PaddleScout maps the route, works out your stats, and keeps it private until you choose otherwise.
