Temple Footbridge slipway

Launch — A slipway on the Thames Path towpath, about 270m from Temple Footbridge and 350m from Temple Lock, between Marlow and Hurley.

Parking — No parking at the slipway itself. The nearest option is a free car park in Hurley village (High Street, SL6 5NB), reported to hold around 50 cars, from which it's roughly a kilometre along the Thames Path towpath to the slipway.

Access — Reached on foot only, along the Thames Path towpath from Marlow or Hurley; there is no direct road access.

Season — The Environment Agency carries out engineering works on the river every year between October and March, which can close individual locks; check the Environment Agency's river restrictions and closures page for current notices.

Regulations — Unpowered craft on the non-tidal Thames between Cricklade Bridge and Teddington Lock must carry an Environment Agency registration under the Environment Agency (Inland Waterways) Order 2010, or hold Paddle UK (British Canoeing) membership instead.

Hurley Lock lies about 800m from the slipway, set among a cluster of wooded islands. Its weir is popular with kayakers and gets busy at weekends.

Temple Footbridge, about 270m away, has been closed by the Environment Agency since 15 May 2023 over structural and safety concerns. Its central span was removed in November 2025 and found beyond economical repair, and the side spans were found in very poor condition when inspected the following February. The river itself has been fully open to navigation since the central span came out, and the Environment Agency is planning a public engagement event on replacement options for June 2026. Temple Lock, about 350m away, sits just below a weir that crosses to the Berkshire bank.
