Above Weir
A whitewater egress point on the non-tidal River Tyne at Hexham, within Tyne Green Country Park immediately above the weir at Hexham Bridge and beside the clubhouses of Hexham Canoe Club and Hexham Rowing Club. Paddlers heading downstream to Corbridge are advised to stop above or below the weir rather than run it blind.
Immediately downstream, the river passes under Hexham Bridge, a nine-arch stone crossing completed in 1793 to a design by Robert Mylne and now Grade II* listed. Between 2015 and 2016 the Tyne Rivers Trust fitted a multi-species fish pass into its weir, letting Atlantic salmon, sea trout and lamprey move upstream past a structure that had exhausted or injured migrating fish.
This stretch of the Tyne is non-tidal, and the Environment Agency named it in 2024 as the only one of England's principal salmon rivers whose stocks are not at risk. The launch sits within Tyne Green Country Park, a public park of around 19 hectares on the river's south bank laid out in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's Jubilee, its riverside walks shaded by avenues of mature trees.

A stone weir spans the full width of the river beneath Hexham Bridge, immediately downstream of the launch. Northumberland County Council asks the public not to try to walk along it.
