Dover Marina slipway
This slipway gives access to Dover Marina, within Dover Harbour on the south Kent coast, where berths sit in the historic Wellington Dock and around the newer western docks. The harbour sits in the sheltered mouth of the River Dour, between the town's chalk cliffs, and is one of the world's busiest passenger ports, 21 miles across the Channel from France. Dover has become a base for paddleboarding and kayaking in recent years.
Wellington Dock was built in the early 1830s to a design by the engineer James Walker, on the site of the harbour's former Great Pent basin.
A self-service kayak and paddleboard rental point, run by Kayakomat, sits on the Esplanade near the marina. The Port of Dover describes it as the only facility of its kind in the UK, available around the clock.
Dover Sea Sports Centre, on the same stretch of the Esplanade, rents kayaks and canoes alongside its sailing and windsurfing courses.
Cullins Yard, a restaurant and bar in a converted shipyard building on Cambridge Road, sits on the marina a short walk from the slipway.
