Carr Houses put-in (Moreton)

Launch — A concrete-surfaced slipway (OSM-tagged leisure=slipway, surface=concrete) crossing the Wallasey Embankment sea wall onto the beach.

Parking — Moreton Shore car park sits directly behind the sea wall, a short walk from the water, and is currently free; Wirral Council has consulted on introducing charges at some of its coastal car parks, so this may change.

Access — Reached on foot across the Wallasey Embankment from North Wirral Coastal Park (Pasture Rd, Moreton, CH46 4TH); the open foreshore has no published booking requirement or opening hours.

Season — RNLI lifeguards patrol this beach seasonally, on a daily service from around Easter and then at weekends into early autumn.

Regulations — Wirral Council's foreshore launch permit scheme applies at named council slipways only, and its unpowered-craft permit is valid at New Brighton alone; no permit is published as required for a hand-carried unpowered craft launching here. Local fisheries byelaws administered by the North Western Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority cover fishing and shellfish, not paddling.

This slipway launches onto Liverpool Bay, part of the Irish Sea, on the North Wirral shore near Carr Houses, a hamlet within Moreton. The foreshore is within the Mersey Narrows and North Wirral Foreshore SSSI and Ramsar site.

Moreton Shore's beach is shingle at the top of the tide, giving way to a wide expanse of sand as the water retreats; a cafe, toilets and a shop sit close to the beach.

The foreshore here forms part of the Mersey Narrows and North Wirral Foreshore Ramsar site and Site of Special Scientific Interest, valued as a feeding and roosting ground for passage and wintering waders and wildfowl; species recorded on these sands include ringed plover, grey plover, sanderling, bar-tailed godwit and knot.
