Trent Lane put-in (Gunthorpe)
This put-in sits on Trent Lane in Gunthorpe, where a marina and mobile home park stand on the River Trent's left bank. Gunthorpe Lock, built in 1922-25, and its weir form part of the six-lock system on the Trent Navigation between Nottingham and Newark, which Canal & River Trust manages.
Downstream of the put-in, the A6097 crosses the river on Gunthorpe Bridge, the only road crossing of the Trent between Nottingham and Newark, with a longest span of 38.1 metres. The Trent's tidal limit lies well downstream at Cromwell Lock, so the water here rises and falls with rainfall and land drainage rather than tide, monitored on this reach by the Environment Agency's Gunthorpe LVL gauge.
The Trent valley here is used as a wildlife corridor: otters and non-native American mink travel the river, and the valley forms part of a flyway for migratory wildfowl and waders between the Severn and the Trent. No statutory conservation designation covers the river channel at this point; the nearest significant site, the Attenborough Nature Reserve Site of Special Scientific Interest, lies upstream near Nottingham and carries no restriction on the water at Gunthorpe.
